So, what does trash the dress mean?

It’s a pretty poor description that generated from America - as the dress doesn’t necessarily get trashed beyond further use.

On your wedding day I’m very careful with the photos I take, to avoid any damage to your dress. Often the underneath of a dress will be filthy, but generally speaking the aim is to get the dress to the reception still looking as good as it did at the ceremony (at least on the outside of it!).

So for the braver couples, what I do is this. Sometime after the wedding day we head out for another photoshoot, this time throwing caution to the wind and not caring about the dress getting dirty.

So I’ll get you lying down, in the water, splashing each other - or just generally doing things & visiting locations we couldn’t possibly risk on a wedding day. The dress will still in all likelihood dry clean just fine - so don’t bother to dry clean it after your wedding day!

Then when I do your album with you, at the end of the album after the normal wedding day photos we put in a special “trash the dress” subsection. These will be really incredible unique photos that you’ll look back on and laugh, and your friends will love.

It’s good fun as well, often we are laughing so hard I’m having problems holding the camera still!

I have some wild trash shoots coming up in Summer of 08/09 - they are pretty much on hold at the moment due to winter - but here are some quick little samples to show you how fun these photos can be.

Better than leaving it in a box to go yellow after 20 years! You know you’ll never use it again, despite saying so :) And your kids won’t want it either!
